No Farms, No Food Uniting Farmers and Environmentalists to Transform American Agriculture by Don Stuart

What happens when a farm fails? Sold? Retires?

These are not easy answers but they can have devastating results for the communities and environment they serve. Mr. Stuart takes a good, hard, long look into the research and reality of the decisions we make about our food. We discuss the history of farms in the US. The  "why and how"  they landed there. And, the financial realities to make food.

Real Estate -
It's a balancing act. When a property is deemed more valuable with retail and housing the property value goes up. Farmers have to leverage their land in order to grow us food. It needs to be affordable for everyone. How do we balance the real estate pressures with our food?

Climate -
Farmers do care about the environment. Rain is very important to a farmer as well as the soils. They like to eat good food too. How do we strike a balance to have our cake and eat it too?

There are many questions and this book offers some answers and a new perspective. Can we  use coalitions to protect our resources? How can we wisely leverage them for our survival and to cherish the the home planet that we all love: Earth.

Don Stuart is a former director for AFT's Pacific Regional Office and has also served as executive director for the Washington Association of Conservation Districts and executive director for Salmon for Washington, a non-profit trade association. Stuart is the author of Barnyards and Birkenstocks: Why Farmers and Environmentalists Need Each Other.
