Swamplands by Edward Struzik published by Island Press in 2021

Peat is partially decomposed plant material that builds up over centuries in swampy, waterlogged conditions. Representing just three percent of the earth's landscape, peatland can store four times more carbon than th eAmazon rainforest and twice as much as all of the world's forests.
In this book Edward, discusses the major peat bogs in the world in places that may surprise you. Bogs and swamplands were prominent in North America before the early European settlers decided to drain them out of fear and economies.  Steeped in mythology and misunderstanding, we have unwittingly built in areas that may always flood. With better understanding of these landscapes, Edward hopes we can learn to live with nature and respect these important ecosystems.
